This past weekend I was in Cape Town and visited one of my favourite seafood restaurants, Catch 22. Catch 22 is situated in BIoubergstrand with an amazing view of Table Mountain across the ocean. It’s a simple and warm family restaurant serving great food.

What to Order at Catch 22, Bloubergstrand

Catch 22 has a lovely menu offering just about any seafood dish that comes to mind. I'm a huge fan of their Saldanha Bay musseIs. They're served in the most delicious creamy white wine sauce (I'm salivating just thinking about it) and some fresh brown bread. The mussels are always served with a very generous helping of sauce so when you’re done with the mussels and the bread, you’ve still got a great ‘soup’ to enjoy ;-) It's no surprise that this was my starter of choice. For my main I had the "Solemate Platter" to share. This is a great way to try a little of all the seafood available at Catch 22. The platter includes medium prawns, calamari, squid heads, mussels and hake - which I usually request to be substituted for kingklip (at an additional cost). I chose to have to have my calamari and kingklip grilled however, I opted for the fried squid heads. The prawns and calamari were well seasoned and the fish was cooked beautifully leaving for a tasty feast. It is served with a choice of either lemon butter, garlic butter or peri-peri sauce along with either rice, chips, baked potato, salad or vegetables. I love Catch 22’s lemon butter sauce so it was an easy decision for me. The platter for two is always a great choice and I’m never disappointed!

The Verdict: Catch 22 Beachside Grille & Bar

The service at Catch 22 has been good on each occasion. On my most recent visit I couldn’t decide between two wines and our waitress actually offered me a taster to assist me in making my choice – that is definitely above and beyond the norm as far as service is concerned. The restaurant has a lovely layout with a beach side vibe and the most gorgeous views of Cape Town. I love the food at Catch 22 and look forward to my next visit.
