During one of my recent trips to Cape Town I was introduced to Burger and Lobster. Burger and Lobster is a fairly newly established restaurant, a little over a year old now. Their speciality – as their name suggests – is burgers and South African rock lobster.
My benedict and I arrived at Burger and Lobster for a quick bite to eat. Their menu allows for halving and sharing of meals which is great if you want to try more than one option. We opted for both the beef burger special and the lobster roll to share. Our waiter recommended these two meals and proudly informed us that these were their best and most popular options. The burger was a 250g beef patty topped with lobster served on a warm toasted brioche bun. A unique and certainly enjoyable burger. The lobster roll – South African lobster tail dressed in a light Japanese style mayonnaise served on a toasted brioche roll – was absolutely delicious! It’s not difficult to see why this is their signature dish. The lobster was sweet, tender and very flavourful and the Japanese style mayonnaise was superb. The lobster roll was certainly the winning dish. We shared these meals with a side of salad and French fries. No ordinary fries, but rather black truffle and parmesan fries. Seriously great tasting potato chips. The salad was also impressive; fresh, crisp and topped with a tasty dressing and parmesan cheese. I’m always impressed when a restaurant takes as much pride and care in their side dishes as they do in their main meals. Really enjoyed my meal at Burger and Lobster.
Burger and Lobster is located in town just off of the trendy Bree Street. The restaurant has a modern bar type feel to it and is well laid out. I found the service at Burger and Lobster really efficient. Our waiter was friendly and we felt well taken care of. While some may find their menu a little limited, keep in mind that if you enjoy burgers and lobster (rather obvious), you’ll definitely find something on the menu that speaks to you. I’m sure I’ll be back again to enjoy that great lobster roll.
