I recently attended the launch of a new cocktail bar in Melville, Mootee Bar. It’s situated in the vibrant 4th Avenue just alongside 27 boxes. Mootee bar boasts a unique cocktail menu – inspired by African tales – and some very impressive mixologists. They also serve up some tasty traditional South African cuisine with a modern twist. If you’re like me and love cocktails, this one is for you.

After arriving at Mootee Bar, I started with the ‘Onderstebo’ which is said to be identified by the ‘Calabash’ and intended to ‘Build Self Esteem’. The menu is really unique and most entertaining. You need to take the time to browse through it and have a few laughs. My second cocktail of choice was the ‘Port of Hope’ with exudes flavours of smoky peach; the intention to ‘show you your way when lost’ (not too sure about that; another few of those and I doubt I'd be able to use my Uber app to find my way home let alone find my way in life). My last cocktail for the evening was the ‘Mvulamlomo’… the mouth opener. The cinnamon is toasted with a blow torch to give added flavours to this chocolate and vanilla infused cocktail. The cocktails at Mootee Bar are really incredible. Loved all the different unique flavours and really enjoyed sitting at the bar watching the mixologists in action. We were served a variety of snacks at Mootee Bar including springbok rolls, mini Zamalek braised chicken bunny chows and one of my personal favourites, corn on the cob with lime salt and spiced sherbet. All seriously tasty and uniquely South African; loved them.

The service at Mootee Bar was good. Bear in mind great cocktails like this take a little time to prepare. The bar area has a lovely vibey atmosphere and Mootee Bar also houses a pretty little rooftop deck and alley way. Absolutely loved the cocktails at Mootee Bar and look forward to visiting again soon.
