Jamie’s Italian
January 16, 2017Jackson’s Real Food Market
January 30, 2017After about two weeks of being back at work, finally settled in, I’m officially over the post-holiday blues. I still find myself reminiscing about the beach and cocktails every now and again but more especially one of the best meals I’ve ever had in KwaZulu-Natal.
Decided to treat myself to something special and went for dinner at The Chef’s Table in Umhlanga. A beautiful restaurant with really amazing food. The restaurant menu changes based on seasonal availability, catch of the day and whatever the head chef thinks up. So you know you’re getting great, fresh, quality food.
I had the confit pork belly on a bed of mashed potato served with purple cabbage, blueberries, apple gel, crackling and a ginger and carrot reduction. It was absolutely delicious! Another really tasty looking meal, was the duo of lamb served with polenta and jus. For dessert I had the lemon posset – a sweet lemon curd with a side of fresh lemon sorbet and spun sugar. A really beautiful and tasty dessert.
The service was fantastic and we got a view of the stunning open plan kitchen. The restaurant even has their very own little wine cellar with a vast selection of good wines. This was really one of the most enjoyable and memorable meals I’ve had. Definitely looking for an excuse to go back to Umhlanga… just so that I can pay The Chef’s Table another visit ;-)
