I’ve heard so many great things about the newly opened Paul, part of the international and iconic French bakery group, in Melrose Arch. I finally got around to visiting them.

I popped into Paul’s on a busy Saturday afternoon. I started with the Café Medici; an espresso shot with frothed milk, orange zest and chocolate sauce. A delicious, tasty drink with a proper caffeine kick. For my meal I opted for the famous French onion soup and the petit camembert au four. The French onion soup was served within the hollow of freshly baked bread. It was absolutely delicious – well seasoned, tasty and authentic! It’s very clear why this is one of their signature dishes; it was truly a great tasting French onion soup. The baked camembert cheese was served with fresh rosemary, carmelised onions, apple raisin chutney and toasted bread. Another really good choice. Nothing better than warm soft melted camembert on some toast. Loved this dish! To cure my sweet tooth craving, I decided to try a chocolate croissant that I spotted behind the glass display on the way in. I also chose a box of assorted flavoured macarons to take home with me. Given that Paul’s is predominantly known for being a bakery/patisserie, I have to admit that I had slightly higher expectations as far as the quality of croissant and macarons were concerned. However, they were still both enjoyable.

The service at Paul’s was very efficient on a busy Saturday. The restaurant is located just off of the trendy streets of Melrose Arch giving it quite an authentic European feel. It has a lovely layout and a real French café vibe. I enjoyed my visit to Paul in Melrose Arch and will certainly be back for that delicious French onion soup!
